Connor Stangroom
The Installation Assurance Authority (The IAA)
Give us a brief description of your background
I have worked for the IAA for around two years now, starting as a building testing technician of background ventilation and airtightness testing. Since joining I have gained a lot more training and skills such as Heat3D and my level 1 in air tightness. I am also close to completing my DEA course which can then progress me further. I am excited to keep expanding my knowledge and learning new things, so one day I can be a leading role, helping others progress like I have been helped.
Who/what inspires you?
I have had multiple role models, one of which is my Dad as he pushes me to be the best version of myself and helps me to see a different view on things. Also my manager Andy, who is always helpful and tries to get the best for the people he manages, and helps make work enjoyable to come to. I want to be in a leadership role in the future so that I can be a manager like him, helping make work enjoyable for others.
What does the word leadership make you think of?
The word leadership makes me think of a person or group who are professional, passionate and optimistic, who help make a change and who can also help an individual or a group to grow and achieve results within their industry.
How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?
I am excited to be a part of the Future Leaders Programme as I feel it will help me learn new skills and encounter new challenges which I haven’t faced before, as well as meeting new people within the industry who I can learn from. It will also help build my confidence and push me out of my comfort zone into something new which will be a great help.
What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?
I think that some of the keys to a sustainable future are trying to move away from fossil fuels and bring in more renewable energy where possible, also to help the general public know a better understanding of net zero and helping them realise the schemes made possible for energy efficiency measures. As a lot of people won’t even be aware of these things happening, this will help give a better understanding to people and can get us closer to having more energy efficient homes nationwide and globally.
